Colleen Paine (Cat 2)
Susan Lipscomb (Cat 4)
The PedalRight team raced the Cherokee County road races, with Cheryl, Colleen and Jennie (1st race as a Cat 2) taking the start in the Pro 1/2 race, and Janice and Susan competing in the Cat 4 race. The Pro 1/2 race was three laps of the course, which "featured" two tough climbs, including the infamous Woodmont hill. Ultimately, Colleen utilized her great climbing form to break away with Kitty Wickes of AtlRoof.com holding on, and was able to outsprint her for the win, with Cheryl taking 4th after doing a lot of work all morning. The Cat 4 race was during the worst heat of the day, and was 2 laps of the 16-mile course. Susan utilized her triathlon time trial skills to ride away from the group early and soloed to the win, ahead of a lone chase more than 5 minutes back! Meanwhile, Janice was working hard to bridge up to 3rd, but eventually finished 4th in the field of 12, a solid showing after her tough crash in Elberton. Another big day of racing as the team took 1st and 4th in both races!!
The PedalRight team traveled to beautiful Elberton, Georgia, the self- proclaimed "granite Capitol of the world" for a weekend of racing, with a time trial, crit and road race. In the morning TT, Cheryl won the event, with Jennie putting in a strong Top-10 effort. The crit was on a tight, flat course that featured a full 90-degree turn. Cheryl, Colleen, Jennie, Janice and Gillis all raced the the event, which also featured two prior winners of the Athens Twilight crit, as well as members of Team Type 1. Cheryl stayed near the front all race, but Colleen slid out on the difficult 90-degree turn. She got up, re-entered the race and drove the pace up from the front for about 7 laps. Once the sprint began, Cheryl held off Morgan Patton of TT1 for 2nd. Colleen took 4th in a very strong field. On Sunday, the team rolled up for the road race, a pretty circuit around Lake Richard Russell. Unfortunately Janice had a bad crash when another racer didn't hold her line. Still, she got up and finished the race. Meanwhile, Colleen got away with Rebecca Larson in a break, taking 2nd in their sprint, and Cheryl took the bunch sprint for 3rd. Another great weekend, with 4 more podiums for the team.
From the gun attacks were rampant. In lap 3 an ex-pro triathlete went off the front. Immediately, our team responded forming a 5 woman chase group. Four from Pedal Right and 1 Kenda rider. In the end we were unable to catch the leader, but Susan stayed strong and held an uphill sprint for 2nd. Jennie came in 4th and Katie came in 5th. Gillis did her job in the main field and took 6th.
A huge turn out of beginner and intermediate riders made up the field. From the line Jennie attacked. The rest of the race maintained a high pace and no one was able to get away. Unfortunately, in the final lap, two of our riders were held up by a crash. However, Ann stayed strong and sprinted for 2nd. Jennie took 5th, Katie 6th, and Gillis 7th.
Aggressive riding was the plan as the Pedal Right women lined up for the 40 mile RR. Attack after attack from the start proved successful as Colleen rode solo for 39 miles to take the Win! Cheryl attack in the main field and was able to break free for a 30+ solo ride to solidify 2nd place. Jennie staying true to form took the Field Sprint for 3rd sweeping the podium. Susan finished 4th, Katie 6th, and Janice 7th. An epic team result on a dreary, rain soaked day.
Morgan from Team Type One attacked from the gun and shattered the field. Cheryl jumped on her wheel which produced a small gap that stayed away for several laps. The group reformed for less then a lap only for Morgan to strike with another big attack. Cheryl went with the move and the two riders stayed away to the finish. Unfortunately a crash in the main field took out 2 of our riders. With one last attack up to the finish Cheryl ended up 2nd.
The Pedal Right riders got ready to one again race the clock. The TT course was a rolling 8 mile out and back. Overall results were Cheryl 1st, Colleen 2nd, Jennie 4th.
With a flurry of early attacks a solo rider got up the road. Colleen & Cheryl broke free from the main group along with the teammate of the solo rider in tow. After several miles we caught the rider and a 4 women break was formed. It was looking like a Sprint finish. With a powerful leadout Cheryl and Colleen successful broke up the Pro team members with a 2nd and 3rd place finish respectively.
As we lined up ready for our individual opportunity to race the clock, nervous energy filled the air. Our first TT of the season proved to be a technical and fast course. Cheryl placed 2nd, Jennie 5th, Colleen 6th, Janice 7th.
It was a chilly start as the women Pro1-4 combined fields and lined up for a 4 lap circuit race. An early attack was launched only to be reeled in quickly. Cheryl counter attacked which established a 4 women break. Teamwork was crucial in the main field and allowed the breakaway to hold the gap for a Sprint finish. Cheryl took the Sprint and Jennie followed suit by winning the Field Sprint for a 5th place finish.
